Police catch evading parolee after high speed chase, crash

Officers of the Pismo Beach Police Department captured a parolee out of Fresno after a high speed chase ended up with a crash on Highway 101.

According to Pismo PD, they received a call around 6:30 a.m. from a resident regarding a vehicle that was just stolen. Officers say they located the vehicle, make and model not released, heading northbound on Price Street. Police say they initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed heading on northbound 101.

After a brief high speed chase with speeds recorded more than 120 mph, the suspect crashed the vehicle north of the Avila Beach off-ramp. Police say the suspect, Shane Calhoun, 23, of Fresno, lost control of the vehicle. Calhoun was taken into custody without incident, according to police. It was later discovered he was on parole.

Calhoun was charged with vehicle theft and felony evasion of a police officer. He is being held on a no-bail parole violation.
