Schoolyard Meth Dealer Busted, Doesn’t Make Bail

In late February and early March, 2012, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Narcotics Detectives ran a sting operation pursuant to citizen reports that methamphetamine was being sold out of a motor home parked near a Santa Maria area school.

William Pearce Tyler was arrested for dealing drugs near a Junior High School

Following a three-week period of investigation, William Pearce Tyler, 59, was observed living in an RV within 1000 feet of Lakeview Junior High School.  According to SBSD Public Information Officer Drew Sugars, “during that time, undercover detectives bought methamphetamine from the suspect more than once”.   While there are no allegations that Tyler sold methamphetamine to Lakeview students, “these sales to undercover detectives took place during school functions,” Sugars said.

Tyler was arrested on March 5th without incident.  A subsequent warrant search of his motor home found him to be in possession of approximately six grams of methamphetamine and paraphernalia related to ongoing drug sales.  He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on multiple drug sale charges, including sales of a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school, and has been held on $50,000 bail.  Tyler continues to remain in custody with no bond posted.
