A 24-year-old field worker from Nipomo was taken into custody Friday night by San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s detectives for the attempted murder of an Oceano man last Thursday.

The victim, Fabian Andrew Medina, 23, was dropped off at the emergency room of Arroyo Grande Community Hospital with multiple stab wounds, according to San Luis Sheriffs. At intake, Medina was declared critical, but stable. The stabbing occurred in Santa Maria.

Sheriff’s detectives located a witness in the case and followed up on many leads which led them to one suspect.

Detectives discovered Medina was stabbed in his vehicle by the suspect as they were having an altercation. After following up on this information, deputies made a quick arrest of Antonio Cabrera Mendoza, 24.

Medina is now in San Luis Obispo County Jail, after being treated for his wounds. It was discovered he was wanted for a no bail parole/probation violation warrant.
