Milpitas homicide suspect arrested in Gilroy

A Milpitas man who eluded police for months was arrested in Gilroy over the weekend in connection with an October 2011 homicide.

According to Milpitas police, 19-year-old Antonio Guerrero was taken into custody for the shooting death of David Benavidez, 18. Benavidez was found in the early morning hours of October 15 suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say that Guerrero was identified as the suspect shortly after the shooting and an arrest warrant was issued, but their suspect managed to evade arrest. His time on the lam ended Saturday when Gilroy police located him in their city on Saturday and arrested him.

Guerrero was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on homicide charges.
