Milpitas sex offender booked for over-exposure

A registered sex offender was arrested last week in Milpitas after he allegedly exposed himself to a woman in a parking lot.

According to Milpitas police, the 34-year-old victim was walking through the parking lot in the 1100 block of E. Calaveras Boulevard on January 10 when 32-year-old Joe Maggi reportedly approached and exposed his genitals. The victim fled in her car and immediately notified authorities.

Responding officers located Maggi based on the description provided by the victim, who positively identified him as the man in question, police say.

Further investigation revealed that Maggi was a registered sex offender. State law requires sex offenders to register with the local police department within five business days. Maggi was out of compliance with the law for failing to register when he moved to Milpitas, according to authorities.

Maggi was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for indecent exposure and failing to register as a sex offender.

Anyone with information on the incident or other similar occurrences is urged to contact Milpitas police at (408) 586-2400. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call (408) 586-2500 or visit the Milpitas Police Department’s website.
