Sheriff and slain victim’s family ask for public’s help

FRESNO – The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and the family of a murdered teenager are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the people responsible for the young man’s death.

It has been nearly two months since 18-year-old Lynn Snowden was stabbed to death after several fights broke out at a party near Sunset Avenue and Eighth Street in Kerman. So far, there haven’t been a lot of answers as to who was responsible for Snowden’s death or for the motive behind the attack.

The party was held on Oct. 22 with around 70 people in attendance. Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said that after the party a fight broke out and Snowden was murdered.

On Thursday, members of Snowden’s family, along with Sheriff Mims, pleaded for anyone who might have information on the crime to come forward. With so many people at the party, they are convinced that someone witnessed something during the crime.

“We wanted to make this plea to please share the information they know with law enforcement,” said the victim’s aunt, Maria Ochoa.

She said that by not talking, witnesses to the crime are doing Snowden and the entire community of Kerman a terrible injustice.

“What happened to Lynn is a parent’s worst fear,” Ochoa said.

Sheriff Mims stressed that the victim was not a gang member. He was a former football player at Kerman High School with many friends, he was working on getting his diploma at a continuation school, and he regularly attended church.

“He was a young person who had goals,” Mims said.

Mims announced that the reward for information leading to an arrest was increased from $1,000 to $2,000. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
