Antioch man chases down own stolen car

ANTIOCH – After reporting your vehicle stolen and several days later you see two thieves driving around town in your car, what would you do?

A local resident was the victim of car theft and spotted a 25-year old male and 30-year old female cruising around town in his vehicle and took matters into his own hands.

“According to the victim, he reported his vehicle stolen on December 1st. Today he observed his vehicle driving around and began chasing the car,” Antioch Police Department’s Corporal Will Dee stated in a press release.

After chasing the vehicle for some time, the two vehicles collided near Asilomar Road at Rock Island Drive.

The victim emerged from his vehicle and confronted the man and woman riding in his car. The 25-year-old man got out of the vehicle and began to flee on foot. The victim, determined to get his vehicle and the last word began chasing the 25-year-old and firing several shots from his handgun in the air. The suspect was seen in several yards throughout the neighborhood, according to residents.

Police arrived at the scene responding to an accident and a fight that broke out and later found the suspect in possession of a firearm and narcotics.

Justtin Griffin of Antioch, the 25-year-old, was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, drug charges and several other alleged violations. The 30-year-old passenger, Pittsburg resident Ariana Rivera, was booked on suspicion of similar charges.

“Inside the stolen vehicle was property found to have been taken from another unreported burglary that had occurred earlier in the day. The property was positively identified by the victim and returned,” Dee stated.

The case is still under investigation.
