Suspect in Coalinga standoff arrested
COALINGA – The man who caused a 10-hour standoff with law enforcement agencies in Coalinga last Thursday was found and arrested the next day.
On Thursday around 1:30 p.m., Coalinga police attempted to serve a search warrant at the home of 42-year-old Lloyd Fryrear on East Valley Street near Warthan Street. Detectives wanted to search the home for illegal weapons, including rifles and automatic handguns.
According to officials, Fryrear and his mother refused to come out of the house, so the Coalinga Police Department called in the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department for back-up help.

“Coalinga PD requested our SWAT team after they attempted to serve a search warrant for illegal weapons at Fryrear’s home,” said Deputy Chris Curtice with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department.
Several homes near Fryrear’s home were evacuated. The SWAT team used tear gas in an attempt to get Fryrear and his mother out of the house. Fryrear’s mother came out after a short time, but Fryrear remained unseen, officials said.
The standoff ended at around 2 a.m. on Friday after law enforcement officials entered and searched the house, but were unable to find Fryrear. Deputies did find at least one illegal weapon inside.
Coalinga police officers returned to the home on Friday around 9 p.m. after they learned that Fryrear was trying to go back to his house. Officers heard someone moving around in the backyard, and after a search, they discovered Fryrear, police said.
Coalinga police arrested Fryrear on suspicion of possession of illegal weapons, according to the Coalinga Police Department.
