Two sex offenders arrested in Milpitas

Milpitas police managed to get one alleged sex offender and a second wanted parolee and registered sex offender off the streets in separate incidents last week.

The first incident occurred on September 20 when a Sunnyvale man was arrested for allegedly exposing himself to two women in separate incidents at Great Mall, police say.

Officers responded to the mall parking lot at about 5:20 p.m. on a report of a suspicious person in the area. Authorities say they located a 22-year-old Fremont woman who said a strange man was standing behind her car as she was attempting to back up. She told police the suspect then approached the driver’s side window, lifted his shirt and pulled down his pants, exposing his genitals.

A short time later, officers located a second woman, a 49-year-old Sunnyvale resident, who provided a similar account, police say.

According to Milpitas investigators, the suspect was identified as 23-year-old Mahesh Chilukunoori of Sunnyvale. Chilukunoori was arrested at the scene and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on indecent exposure charges, officials say.

A few days later, on September 23, officers responded to the Save Mart shopping center in the 200 block of W. Caliveras Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m. last Thursday night on a report of a panhandler who was harassing customers, officials say.

Milpitas police officer Mark Doyle says officers contacted the suspect and learned he was Marcos Vince Moralez, 39, a registered sex offender.

“He was wanted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on a parole violation,” Doyle said.

Moralez was arrested at the scene and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on the outstanding parole violation, officials say.

Moralez’ criminal history includes sexual battery and multiple incidences of indecent exposure, according to homefacts.com, a website dedicated to neighborhood safety. While he is listed in the national sex offender database, a specific city of residence for Moralez was unknown.

Anyone with information on these cases is asked to contact Milpitas police at (408) 586-2400. Anonymous tips can be left by calling the Milpitas Police Department Crime Tip Hotline at (408) 586-2500 or by visiting the Milpitas police website.
