Sheriff's deputies arrest man involved in Carmichael shooting

SACRAMENTO – The man shot by Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies late last month was arrested Tuesday morning and is now being held on a $1 million bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Around 4:30 a.m. on March 25, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a man firing an automatic weapon at an apartment complex at 5018 Marconi Ave. in Carmichael, according to an earlier press release from the sheriff’s department.

Robert Reese

Deputies confronted 42-year-old Robert Reese who retreated into one of the apartment units.

Two deputies shot Reese after he advanced toward them with a large knife above his head. Reese, who sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body, was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael.

Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman Jason Ramos said in an earlier interview that there was no one in the apartment unit with the suspect, and it’s unknown whether the suspect was drunk or on drugs at the time of the shooting.

The hospital recently cleared Reese for incarceration, at which time he was placed under arrest. Reese’s court date is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sacramento County Main Jail, Department 63, according to the county jail log.
