Repeat offenders keep CHP officers on their toes

SANTA ROSA — Highway patrol officers in Santa Rosa arrested several repeat offenders and suspended drivers over the weekend.

At about 12:50 a.m. Saturday, officers stopped to help out a stranded motorist parked off southbound Highway 101 near Rohnert Park Expressway.

Though the driver, Lesley Haylock, 48, of Santa Rosa, explained that she had run out of gas, she showed signs of intoxication and warranted a driving under the influence evaluation that led to her arrest. As it turned out, Haylock had a prior DUI conviction and is currently on probation.

Later that morning, around 5:30 a.m., a 2007 Toyota Tacoma overturned on the right shoulder of northbound Highway 101, south of the Penngrove exit. The driver, Kaitlin McGrain, 22, of Rohnert Park, and passenger, Blake Hilts, 22, were uninjured.

Exhibiting signs of intoxication, CHP officers arrested and booked McGrain for DUI and driving on a suspended license. She had been suspended for failing to appear on previous citations.

The next day at approximately 12:40 a.m., a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy called CHP officers for a DUI evaluation after watching Anthony Allen Royer, 22, of Santa Rosa, driving on Faught Road south of Shiloh Road. Royer was arrested and booked for DUI and violation of probation, for a prior alcohol-related incident.

At 10:20 p.m. Sunday, CHP officers found a parked vehicle on Cooper Road south of State Route 116 that had been apparently struck by a vehicle that left the scene.

CHP Officer Christopher Manley discovered a Ford truck parked on Cooper Road that had corresponding collision damage. With the help of residents of a nearby house, Manley found the truck owner, Jerry Paul McCombs, 49, of Sebastopol, who admitted to drifting off the road and striking the parked car.

The officer noted signs of impairment, conducted a DUI evaluation and arrested McComb, who is on probation with a suspended license for two prior DUI convictions. He was booked into the Sonoma County jail on charges of DUI, hit and run, and violation of probation.
