Police investigate shooting death in southwest Fresno

FRESNO — Investigators are looking into the death of a young man who was shot Tuesday night.

The Fresno Police Department identified the victim as 20-year-old Victor Ellsberry of Fresno. Investigators said that Ellsberry was standing in front of a home on the 900 block of Klette Avenue, between Kern and Tulare streets, just before 7 p.m. when a car pulled up. A dispute took place between the victim and the occupants of the car. The driver pulled out a gun and fired three to six shots.

The victim was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later. The suspects are still on the loose, according to police.

Lt. Jon Papaleo said there are witnesses to the incident who are giving police information. He said that investigators have been given “sketchy descriptions” and are trying to piece together what happened.

At this time, investigators do not believe that this incident is gang-related, but this investigation remains ongoing. This marks Fresno’s 38th homicide so far this year.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department.
