One dead, one injured in Reedley shooting

REEDLEY – A double shooting in Reedley on Sunday night left one man dead and another one in the hospital.

Around 9:05 p.m. on Sept. 12, officers from the Reedley Police Department were dispatched to the 1500 block of E. Jefferson Avenue for a report of numerous gunshots fired in the area. There were also reports of several subjects running from the scene.

Officers arrived at the scene to find two Hispanic males, ages 34 and 55, lying in the driveway of a nearby residence. Both subjects were suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

The younger victim, who was shot in the chest, was not breathing and was transported by ambulance to Sierra Kings Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The second male subject was suffering from several gunshot wounds, and was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center.

“The second victim is expected to make a full recovery, from the information I have received,” said police spokesperson Sgt. Robert Sherrow.

During the preliminary investigation, officers determined that the two male victims were standing outside of a residence on Jefferson Avenue. Two male suspects approached the residence on foot and fired at least 10 rounds from a high caliber weapon. The suspects then fled on foot, getting into a small dark compact vehicle parked a block away.

The investigation is still ongoing. If anyone has any information on similar vehicles in the area or any other information regarding the shooting, they should contact Det. Janie Ortiz at the Reedley Police Department Investigations Unit at (559) 637-4250.

Sunday’s incident brings Reedley’s homicide total for the year to two, Sherrow said.
