Suspected drunk driver rams car into pedestrian

SAN LUIS OBISPO — A man was trapped between two cars after an alleged drunk driver hit a parked car in San Luis Obispo on Thursday morning, according to city police officials.

Gabriel Payne, 39, of San Luis Obispo, was driving a red Toyota 4-Runner southbound on Augusta at about 10 a.m. when he collided with a parked car, said police Sgt. Jeff Booth. The parked vehicle was pushed into a second parked vehicle, which pedestrian Brenner Harris, 52, of San Luis Obispo, was seated on the rear bumper.

Harris, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his legs, was trapped between the two parked vehicles, Booth said.

Several people helped free Harris from between the cars, police said. San Luis Obispo Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene and treated Harris before he was transported to a local hospital.

Payne was booked on suspicion of felony drunken driving and booked in county jail. Bail was set a $100,000.
