Domestic dispute leads to arrest of OC prosecutor, wife

HUNTINGTON BEACH — A Christmas night parking lot brawl between a top Orange County prosecutor and his wife has lead to both of their arrests, according to police.

David Brent, 53, an Orange County assistant deputy district attorney who has been successfully involved with several high profile murder cases as a homicide prosecutor, allegedly punched his wife in the face while the two argued over a gift in the Ocean View High School parking lot.

Police received a call reporting the incident from Brent’s wife, Roshawn Brent, 27, about 11 pm. Police responded and arrived at the Ocean View High School parking lot, located at Warner and Gothard, to find that David Brent had already left the scene on foot, leaving his wife and car behind with the car keys in his possession.

The investigation into the incident lead police to arrest Roshawn Brent at approximately 11:30 pm. David Brent was then located walking near the intersection of Heil and Edwards. Both were taken into custody and face charges of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant with bail set at $50,000 each.

David Brent was reportedly released after posting bail but information on Roshawn Brent’s release was not available.

The Orange County Register reports that, according to district attorney’s spokeswoman Susan Schroeder, the Huntington Beach Police Department turned the case over to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office because of a conflict of interest.
