Mission Viejo man popped for Irvine car burglary

IRVINE — A Saturday morning car burglary has led to the arrest of a Mission Viejo man who police say was in possession of about $1,100 worth of the burglary victim’s property.

Marc Akira Otomo, 28, of Mission Viejo, was taken into custody Monday morning after Irvine police viewed security camera footage from the parking structure where the theft had occurred and were able to discern the suspect’s description and license plate number.

According to police, the car owner had left his car overnight in a community parking structure on the 8000 block of Scholarship. He had also left his car windows rolled down in an effort to air out the car after his child had thrown up in the car earlier in the day.

The victim returned in the morning to find several items missing, including an iPod, his child’s car seat and multiple pairs of sunglasses.

Otomo faces charges of grand theft.
