Police request help in bicycle thefts

SANTA BARBARA — Thousands of dollars worth of advanced-tech bicycles were reported stolen from Electric Star eBikes last week, just steps away from the busy beachfront tourist center in The Mission City.

A quartet of Hebb ElectroGlide models that retail for $2,000 each were discovered missing Oct. 13, when entrepreneur-owner Ken Kalb discovered the lock cut off the storefront door. Kalb is confident that the thieves knew exactly the value of their booty, as they left everything else in the store untouched.

Santa Barbara police investigators indicate a limited possibility of making any arrest in this case, as burglaries are becoming an increasingly common event in Santa Barbara’s retail district. Detectives will be publicizing the thefts of the unique bikes throughout the local recreational community with a call for local residents and bicyclists to give authorities all possible help in identifying the thieves.
