'Suspicious subject' call leads to officer-involved shooting

GROVER BEACH — A local man was shot by police during a weekend altercation.

Grover Beach police officials said Randal Clay Corvey, 43,  was shot Sunday around 6:45 p.m. by officers responding to a report of a “suspcious subject” in the 100 block of North 10th Street. Upon arrival, police officers contacted Corvey, got involved in an altercation, “and subsequently involved in a shooting with that subject,” according to a press release from Grover Beach Police department.

Corvey was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The two unidentified officers sustained non-life threatening injuries and have been placed on paid administrtive leave per department policy.

Corvey has been charged with assault on an officer with a deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon, two counts of assalting a peace officer and resisting an officer.
