12 year-old arrested for DUI

ROCKLIN, Calif —  A 12-year-old boy was arrested early Monday morning, January 5,  for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,  hit-and-run and driving without a license.

According to the Rocklin Police Department officials, officers responded to a reported hit-and-run along the 3000 block of Twin Creeks Lane. A witness told police that a male driver had hit two parked cars and fled. Officers found an abandoned vehicle a half mile away at the intersection of Springview Drive and Sunset Boulevard.

Officers later learned the name and description of the suspected driver. A half hour later, the juvenile suspect was located in Roseville. He reportedly displayed symptoms of intoxication, police said, and was taken into custody.

According to statements, the boy, whose name is not being released due to his age,  had been visiting relatives in Rocklin. He took some car keys and snuck out of the house, taking a car. Police said that the juvenile suspect was released to his mother.  A media release stated that the suspect will face a review of the charges by the Placer County Juvenile Probation Department and the District Attorney’s Office.
