El Dorado Hills man charged with sex crimes

A sex for money ad posted on Craigslist led to the arrest of an El Dorado Hills man on charges of sex trafficking.

Rishi Sanwal, 23, was arrested by FBI agents and Sacramento Police detectives Monday near the intersection of Green Valley Road and Francisco Drive in El Dorado Hills after allegedly prostituting an El Dorado Hills teenager.

FBI officials said in a released statement that the 17-year-old female victim was reported missing in late March. She was last seen at the Safeway parking lot off Francisco Boulevard in El Dorado Hills.

She was found at a Motel 6 in Fremont. Her name is not being released because of her age.

Investigators now know that prior to the disappearance of the El Dorado Hills teen she was last seen with Sanwal, who was driving a maroon Hummer.

Officials have not said if the victim went willingly with Sanwal or was taken by force.

Steve Dupre, spokesman for the Sacramento FBI office, declined to comment on the case that could involve other victims.

According to an affidavit filed with the U.S. Eastern District Federal Court July 1, the ad listed under “erotic” on Craiglist provided clues to the first alleged victim’s whereabouts.

A telephone number and photo of the victim dressed only in underwear offered sex with “Kimberley” for “200H” or “150HH,” which means, according to the affidavit, $200 an hour or $150 for a half hour.

On March 20, according to the affidavit, the victim ended up in a Rocklin hotel where a Craigslist ad “yielded her four dates” at the Heritage Inn on Rocklin Road.

Approximately six days after she went missing the teen placed a telephone call to a friend and said she was in the Bay Area. Caller ID information from that telephone call was traced to several on-line ads placed in the “erotic” section of Craigslist.

The victim identified Sanwal as the person that brought her from El Dorado Hills to the Bay Area, according to the affidavit.

Subpoenaed results from Craigslist indicate the possibility of a second victim, in the Sacramento region or Bay Area, according to the affidavit. AT this point the second possible victim has not been identified and her whereabouts are not known.

Following the arrest, FBI agents and police searched Sanwal’s parents’ home, in the “upscale” Summit subdivision on Hopkins Place in El Dorado Hills and several items were taken into evidence including the 2005 maroon Hummer, several cell phones, computers and CDs.
